Upul Bandarage

Upul Bandarage has worked in the field of medicinal chemistry for over 30 years. Upul began their career in 1992 as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Professor Martin Kuehne’s group at the University of Vermont. In 1997, they moved to NitroMed as a Senior Scientist. In 2001, they joined Paratek Pharmaceuticals as a Senior Scientist. Upul then worked at Vertex Pharmaceuticals as a Principal Research Scientist from 2002 to 2021. In 2021, they were hired as a Principal Investigator, Medicinal Chemistry at Roivant Sciences. Upul Bandarage is currently employed as an Associate Director, Medicinal Chemistry at Ensem Therapeutics.

Upul Bandarage received their PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry from the University of Otago, New Zealand in 1992. Prior to that, they obtained a BS (HONS) in Chemistry from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka in 1985.
