Machine Learning Engineer at EvenUp

Yenson Lau has diverse work experience in the field of machine learning and data science. Yenson currently works as a Machine Learning Engineer at EvenUp since 2023. Prior to this, they worked at Layer 6 AI where they held the role of Machine Learning Scientist from May 2020 to June 2022. During their time at Layer 6 AI, Yenson developed explainable and performant ML models, worked on deep learning research projects, and collaborated with business partners to meet strict requirements and standards.

Yenson also has experience as an Editor at Towards Data Science from February 2020 to August 2020.

Before joining Layer 6 AI and Towards Data Science, Yenson served as a Ph.D Candidate (Withdrawn) and Research Assistant at Columbia University in the City of New York from September 2015 to October 2019. Yenson'sresearch focused on optimization principles for SaSD and the development of a SaSD toolkit for material properties extraction.

Additionally, Yenson worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at Columbia University from September 2016 to December 2018, where they held office hours, designed assignments, and assisted with teaching Digital Signal Processing.

Earlier in their career, Yenson gained industry experience as a Data Science Intern at Topos Inc. in 2017 and as a Digital TV Group - Picture Quality Validation Intern at Broadcom in 2012. Yenson also served as a Summer Research Student at the University of Toronto in 2011, where they worked on Wireless MIMO Spatial Filtering.

Yenson Lau completed their education with a focus on Electrical Engineering. Yenson earned their Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) with Honours in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto, where they studied from 2008 to 2013. Prior to that, they completed their IB Diploma at Shatin College from 2002 to 2008, with an emphasis on HL Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Moving forward, Yenson pursued their postgraduate studies at Columbia University, where they obtained their Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from 2013 to 2015. Yenson later continued their studies at Columbia University, earning a Master of Philosophy - MPhil in Electrical Engineering from 2015 to 2019.
