Peter Ray has extensive experience in the field of medicinal chemistry and drug design. Peter currently holds the position of Distinguished Scientist in Medicinal Chemistry at CHARM Therapeutics since 2023. Prior to this, they worked as an Executive Director of Drug Design at Exscientia Ltd from 2018 onwards, where they led multiple projects and successfully delivered clinical candidates using Artificial Intelligence.
From 2011 to 2017, Peter served as the DDU TB Program Lead at Dundee Drug Discovery Unit, managing a team of around 20 members and collaborating with renowned experts in TB research. Peter also worked as a Group Leader at UCB Pharma for a brief period in 2011.
Peter has experience working at pharmaceutical companies such as Merck Sharp & Dohme and Schering-Plough Research Institute, where they led optimization projects and served as a lead chemist. Peter also held the position of Lead Optimization Project Leader and Lead Chemist at Organon, where they successfully delivered lead candidates for cardiovascular and GPCR programs.
Peter started their career as a Medicinal Chemist at Amura therapeutics and later worked as a Lecturer and Post-Doc Researcher at the University of Nottingham, conducting research and providing academic instruction.
Peter Ray earned a BSc(Hons) degree in various subjects including Physics, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Maths, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Statistics, from the University of Cape Town in 1995. Peter then pursued an MSc in Synthetic Organic Chemistry at the same institution, from 1995 to 1997. Peter further continued their education at the University of Liverpool, where they obtained a PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry in the period spanning 1997 to 2000.
