Marianne Cottin

Peak Performance Coach at Flow Research Collective

Marianne is one of their Ph.D.-level coaches and she is all about science. She is a scientist, professor of research methods, and peak performance coach who applies her extensive knowledge of the latest research on the human mind to her work with clients. She teaches undergraduates and graduate students how to conduct and consume rigorous research and is deeply passionate -kind of obsessed- about optimization by applying science to daily life.

Dr. Cottin is also a licensed clinical psychologist and has been working in the field of well-being and mental health for over 14 years. She helps individuals, teams and organizations build the confidence they need to reach their highest potential by providing them with tools and resources to cultivate a growth mindset and break through barriers. She combines principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Positive Psychology to help individuals challenge themselves while developing habits to reach their most ambitious goals.

Marianne has led national and international research teams to accomplish their goals, using both quantitative and qualitative methods.Constantly encouraging scientists to use fewer acronyms and fancy words to reach non-technical audiences, she’s published her work in journals such as Computers in Human Behavior, Depression and Anxiety, and the European Journal of Psychotraumatology.

As an expert in the role of traumatic experiences on personality, wellbeing and mental health, Dr. Cottin has a deep understanding of how past experiences can impact individual ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. She is confident that with the right tools, individuals can grow from these experiences and change their life trajectories to accomplish things they previously thought impossible.

Marianne has always been a traveler and enjoys going deeply into understanding cultures. Born and raised in Venezuela, Marianne has intentionally exposed herself to different cultural environments by living in four different countries during her adulthood. Before entering undergraduate school, she flew to China and stayed there for a year, committing herself to the challenge of adding another language to her belt: Mandarin (as a native Spanish speaker with fluency in English and some French and German). She has learned the habit of approximating others with a deep curiosity for understanding different perspectives of the world with awe and empathy. She has learned that it’s important to keep your eye on the goal even when things don’t go according to plan—and that taking some distance from your own thoughts and being flexible is key for success. She applies this principle with clients, meeting them where their current beliefs are, and helping them to challenge them to discover their own recipe to unblock potential.
