Joana Damas

Manager - Computational Biology at Form Bio

Joana Damas is the Manager of computational biology at Form Bio since August 2022. Prior to this role, Joana was a Principal computational biologist at UC Davis Genome Center from October 2017 to June 2022, focusing on studying chromosome evolution in mammals by reconstructing ancestral genomes. Before their time at UC Davis, Joana was a PHD Researcher at Royal Veterinary College from April 2014 to September 2017, where Joana developed a new methodology for upgrading short read animal genomes and studied avian chromosomal evolution. Joana also served as a Research Trainee at IPATIMUP from October 2010 to November 2013, investigating the causes of mitochondrial (mt) DNA deletions in humans. Joana holds a PhD in Comparative Genomics and Evolution from Royal Veterinary College, a Master's degree in Forensic Genetics, and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto.
