Morolake Okanlawon has held various positions in the medical and research fields since 2019. In 2019, they worked as a Research Assistant for the Minority Science and Engineering Improvement Program (MSEIP) at Mississippi Valley State University, where they studied the shape and size of nanoparticles and their antibacterial effects. Morolake also worked as an Assistant Laboratory Technician, where they shadowed senior lab staff, created an Excel sheet to record lab inventory, and reported missing lab equipment to their supervisor.
In 2020, they held positions at FedEx Logistics as a Custom Trade Agent and at BUILT BY GIRLS as a Mentee. In 2021, they were a Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, where they assessed the rate of hospitalization in COVID-19 positive patients after vaccination and the rate of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in patients with COVID-19 hospitalized after vaccination.
Currently, Morolake Okanlawon is working as a Medical Scribe for both Forward and DeepScribe, where they capture accurate and detailed descriptions of patient encounters with a provider and enters them into the electronic medical record (EMR). Morolake also documents patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical and surgical history, family or social histories, medications and allergies, and complies with HIPAA standards to keep patient information confidential.
Morolake Okanlawon is currently enrolled at Mississippi Valley State University, where they are pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biology, General. Morolake is expected to graduate in 2023. In 2021, Morolake also attended iXperience for a Digital Marketing course.
