Johnny Zhang, Ph.D.

Research Scientist at Gator Bio

Johnny Zhang, Ph.D., has a diverse and extensive work experience. Johnny joined Gator Bio in 2022 as a Research Scientist, where they conducted product research and development for label-free bioanalytical instrument systems. Their work focused on quantitation and kinetics of biomolecules, including antibodies, antigens, conjugates, and small molecules. Johnny developed analytical methods for protein binding affinity analysis and implemented protein modification through bioconjugation methods.

Prior to joining Gator Bio, Johnny worked at the University of Toronto from 2016 to 2022 as a Ph.D. research student in Chemistry - Nano-biotechnology. During their time there, they implemented LC-MS/MS for identifying bound proteins on nanoparticles and developed a quantum dot-based antibody diagnostic assay for COVID-19 patients. Johnny also developed a modified ELISA assay for quantifying bound proteins on nanoparticles.

In addition to their academic and research roles, Johnny was involved in organizing two academic conferences as part of the Chemical Biophysics Symposium from 2016 to 2018. Johnny led a team of executives, communicated with international researchers, and managed logistical aspects of the conferences.

Before their Ph.D. studies, Johnny held several positions at Mount Allison University from 2013 to 2016. Johnny worked as an International Centre Student Assistant, Teaching Assistant, and Research Assistant during their time there.

Overall, Johnny Zhang, Ph.D., has a strong background in bioanalytical research and development, with expertise in protein analysis, nanoparticle diagnostics, and academic event organization.

Johnny Zhang, Ph.D. pursued their education in the field of Chemistry. From 2012 to 2016, they attended Mount Allison University where they completed their Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) with Honours in Chemistry. Johnny further advanced their education by enrolling at the University of Toronto from 2016 to 2022, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Chemistry.
