Joe M.

Associate Head Of Molecular Biology at Genective

Joe M.'s work experience begins in 1998 when they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant at the University of Minnesota Barley Breeding Program. Joe then joined 3M in 2001 as a Research Associate, where they operated laboratory robotics for high-throughput screening of pharmacological compounds. In 2003, they worked as a Research Assistant in the John Ward laboratory at the University of Minnesota, focusing on genotyping and characterization of Arabidopsis mutants related to membrane transport.

Joe then joined Chromatin, Inc. in 2003 as a Technician before pursuing their PhD research in the Mary Lou Guerinot laboratory at Dartmouth College from 2004 to 2010. During this time, they also published scientific papers.

After completing their PhD, Joe M. worked as a Postdoctoral fellow at the Institut de Biologie de l'École Normale Supérieure (ENS) from 2010 to 2013. There, their project focused on identifying novel iron uptake mechanisms in algae, and they were awarded an FPGG Fellowship to support their work.

In 2014, Joe M. had two different roles. Joe worked as a Business Analyst at Monsanto Company from June to October, and then joined Mars as a Senior Scientist. At Mars, they were involved in molecular biology, genomics, and synthetic biology for raw material sustainability and safety. Joe also managed and audited external biotech collaborations and communicated science to stakeholders. Joe'stenure at Mars lasted until July 2018.

Following their time at Mars, Joe M. founded Bonsai Genetics in 2018, where they conducted proof of concept work to create a minimal plant genome, which unfortunately did not succeed.

Currently, Joe M. serves as the Molecular biology group leader at Genective since December 2019. Genective is a joint venture between Limagrain and KWS dedicated to the research, development, and commercialization of transgenic traits. There, they also held the position of Molecular Biologist (Senior Scientist) from December 2019 to October 2022.

Joe M. earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Science in Agriculture, specifically Plant Science, from the University of Minnesota. Joe attended this institution from 1997 to 2002. Later, from 2004 to 2010, Joe completed their education at Dartmouth College, where they obtained a PhD in Biology.
