Melanie Thornton

Melanie Thornton serves as Engagement Manager for Gisborne District Council since January 2022 and as Executive Director of the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs since November 2018, where responsibilities include establishing engaging programs and enhancing communication strategies. Previously, Melanie participated in the Govt Tech Lightning Lab in 2018 and held the role of Manager for the Sustainable Transport Team and Project Leader for the Wellington Regional Strategy at Greater Wellington Regional Council from 2012 to 2018 and 2008 to 2012, respectively. Earlier experience includes serving as Senior Features Producer for Radio New Zealand from 1999 to 2007. Educational background includes a BSc Hons in Microbiology from the University of Otago.
