Francisco Silva Silva

Chairman at Grupo Security SA

Francisco Silva holds a degree in civil engineering from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and a Master of Science in Engineering from Stanford University. He is one of the founding partners of Grupo Security and has served as chairman of its board since 1996. He also chairs the boards of Banco Security, Administradora General de Fondos Security, Factoring Security, Inmobiliaria Security, Securitizadora Security, and Travex Security, and sits on the boards of Protecta Security (Peru) and Travel Security.

In addition, since 2007 he has been the president of the Chile-China Bilateral Business Council, which is part of SOFOFA, a Chilean industry and business association. This council works to promote commercial exchange, business relations, and opportunities between these two countries.

With broad experience in the financial sector, Mr. Silva has held different positions at banks, pension fund managers, and other financial institutions. He has also served on the boards of numerous reputable companies and entities and has received numerous awards for his efforts in the business world.

In 1987 Francisco Silva joined Security Pacific National Bank of California as its representative in Chile and as Chairman of Banco Security Pacific in Chile, which became Banco Security in 1990. In this role, he led the creation of Grupo Security, a financial conglomerate that currently has operations in Chile, Peru, and Hong Kong.

From 1984 to 1986 he was the Chief Executive Officer of the pension fund manager AFP Unión. Before that, he was Director of Operations at the Chilean Central Bank (1981-1984) and Vice President of Chase Manhattan Bank N.A. (1979-1980). From 1976 to 1979 he was Chief Financial Officer of Banco del Trabajo.

Mr. Silva has participated in different independent organizations that promote Chilean business. Between 2009 and 2017, he was on the board of ICARE, a prestigious, independent, private, non-profit foundation that promotes business excellence in the country. He was also chairman of ICARE from 2011 to 2013.

He was voted Businessman of the Year in 2016 by EY and El Mercurio.

In 2016, he and Xi Jinping signed a financial cooperation agreement between Banco Security and the China Development Bank to support and finance Banco Security customers wanting to do business in Asia.

He has also been a director of Cemento Polpaico (2001-2013), AES Gener S.A. (1988-2000), Grupo Banmédica (1990-1992), Enersis (1988-1991) and Chilectra (1988 to 1989).
