Senior Scientist Project Lead at Hansa Medical

Catja Freiburghaus has a diverse work experience in the biopharmaceutical industry. Catja started their career as a laboratory technician at AnaMar Medical in 2000 and 2001. Catja then pursued their PhD in Food Technology at Lund University from 2006 to 2010. After completing their PhD, they joined Alligator Bioscience AB, where they worked as a research scientist and later transitioned into an industrial postdoc position. At Alligator Bioscience, they were involved in the development of cellular assays and the evaluation of novel cancer immunotherapeutics. In 2012, they worked on a collaborative project with the Department of Immunotechnology at Lund University.

Freiburghaus continued their research career as a postdoc at the Department of Immunotechnology, Lund University from 2014 to 2018. During this time, they focused on investigating drug resistance and post-treatment survival in Mantle Cell Lymphoma and B cell lymphomas. Catja also gained experience in gene expression analysis, biomarker discovery, and functional studies.

In 2019, they joined Hansa Biopharma as a scientist, where their main responsibility was to develop and optimize assays for pre-clinical and clinical activities related to IgG cleaving enzymes for autoimmune diseases and cancer treatment. In 2021, they took on the role of a senior scientist project lead, leading a gene therapy collaboration project and managing in-house gene therapy research at Hansa Biopharma.

Freiburghaus also took breaks from their career to go on maternity leave in 2015 and 2018. Additionally, during their master's studies, they worked as a Proqurator at Kristianstads Nation, where they were responsible for the economy and budgeting.

Catja Freiburghaus has a diverse education history. It commenced in 1997 with their enrollment at Katedralskolan Lund, where they studied Natural Sciences (Bilingual) until 2000. Following that, from 2000 to 2006, Catja pursued and completed a Master's Degree in Biomedicine at Lund University. In 2005, they went on to undertake Diploma work for their Master thesis at the University of Aberdeen. Subsequently, Catja returned to Lund University in 2005 to undertake another course (30 hp) in Business Economy, which they completed in 2006. From 2006 to 2010, they further pursued their doctoral studies at Lund University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Food Technology. In 2011, Catja pursued additional education at Blekinge Institute of Technology, completing a course (7.5 hp) in Intellectual Property and Business Strategy. In the same year, they also attended a course at the Competence Centre for Clinical Research, focusing on Clinical trials and GCP.
