James Aliaga

James Aliaga has a diverse and extensive work experience. James is currently serving as the National Vice President - Regions & Affiliates at the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA), where they advocate for issues affecting Latinx legal professionals and the US Latinx community. Prior to this role, they were the Regional President (Region II) at HNBA, where they focused on building and strengthening the local community of Latinx attorneys in New York.

Before joining HNBA, they worked as a Senior Associate at Calcaterra Law PC and as an Associate at Wolf Haldenstein Adler Freeman & Herz LLP. James also served as an Assistant District Attorney at the Kings County District Attorneys Office, handling a caseload of felony cases and coordinating with law enforcement and court trials.

James Aliaga has also interned at various organizations, including the U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York, where they assisted with visa fraud investigation and trial preparation, and PwC, where they conducted legal research on Volcker Rule compliance.

Additionally, they gained valuable experience at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, conducting investigations and legal research on Dodd-Frank regulatory matters, and at Morgan Stanley, where they supported attorneys and worked on securities regulations and compliance issues.

Furthermore, James Aliaga has a background in education advocacy, having served as the Intake Manager at the Suspension Representation Project, where they represented public school students in disciplinary matters and evaluated charges based on the NYC Chancellor's Regulations.

James Aliaga completed their J.D. degree at New York University School of Law from 2012 to 2015. Prior to that, they earned a B.A. magna cum laude in Philosophy from James Madison University, graduating in 2012. In 2013, they received the New York City Bar Diversity Fellowship. Additionally, James Aliaga obtained certifications including being admitted to the New York State Bar, Second Judicial Department in February 2016, and being admitted to the United States District Court, Southern District of New York in September 2019, the United States District Court, Eastern District of New York in April 2020, and the United States District Court, District of Colorado in April 2020.
