Brent Gettel

Sr. Commercial Credit Analyst at Horizon Bank

Brent Gettel has extensive experience in the banking industry, starting in 1995 with Michigan National Bank as an Associate Relationship Manager and Credit Analyst. Brent'sresponsibilities included evaluating companies' credit histories and determining risk, as well as completing loan applications and conducting credit analyses.

In 2001, Brent joined Chemical Bank as a Commercial Loan Officer. Here, they sourced, developed, and underwrote commercial loan financing requests, monitored the loan portfolio's risk rating, and collaborated with branch managers and other departments through joint calling efforts. Additionally, they took on the role of Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Coordinator in 2007, working with branch and lending staff to ensure CRA initiatives were implemented and training managers and lenders on the Community Involvement tracking system.

Following a merger, Brent moved to Huntington National Bank in 2015, where they served as a Business Banking Underwriter and Portfolio Manager. In this position, they were responsible for credit underwriting and decision-making for commercial loans through the Business Banking and Branch Center network.

Recently, in 2022, Brent joined Horizon Bank as a Senior Commercial Credit Analyst. Here, they underwrite loan requests for business and commercial real estate, reviews and analyzes financial and industry data, assesses credit risk, and prepares credit analysis and risk ratings for complex loans and renewals. Brent also demonstrates expertise in loan structuring, legal and documentation issues, and understanding credit policy and underwriting requirements.

Brent Gettel completed their Master's degree in Accounting and Business/Management from Saginaw Valley State University, from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Finance with a minor in Marketing from Central Michigan University, from 1990 to 1994. Additionally, Brent has pursued further education related to banking and financial support services through programs offered by the Michigan Bankers Association, Risk Management Association, and Independent Consultants. Brent has also engaged in learning and development activities with BAI Learning and Development. The exact start and end years for the last two educational experiences are unknown.
