Marty J. Alvarado has a diverse work experience in the education sector. Marty J. began their career at Mt. San Antonio College as a Contractor - CTE Coordinator in 2008. Marty J. then joined Long Beach City College in 2004, where they held multiple roles including CalWORKs Manager, Philosophy Instructor, Director of Institutional Resource Development, and Director of Workforce Development. In 2015, Alvarado moved to Jobs for the Future as a Senior Program Director, responsible for Cross-Sector Networks. Marty J. later joined the CA Community College Chancellor's Office in 2019 as an Executive Vice Chancellor. Currently, Alvarado holds the position of Vice President of Post Secondary Education & Training at Jobs for the Future, which they started in March 2023.

Marty J. Alvarado completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Whittier College from 1994 to 1999. Following this, Marty pursued a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy/Cultural Analysis from the University of Amsterdam from 2002 to 2004.
