Melissa Sungela

Melissa Sungela has over 30 years of experience in corporate finance and accounting. Melissa began their career in 1988 as a Senior Manager at KPMG Peat Marwick, where they worked in the accounting research department and assisted partners and clients with interpreting and applying SEC rules and regulations in their filings with the SEC. In 1995, they were promoted to the executive offices and served in that role until 1998.

In 1998, Melissa joined Honeywell as the Director of Accounting Policy, where they were a corporate resource for accounting and control related projects, and structured and prescribed accounting treatment for complex transactions. From 2002 to 2004, they were the Controller of North America at Amersham Biosciences (GE Healthcare), where they supervised shared services for General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Credit & Collections over six entities.

In 2004, Melissa joined A&P as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Controller and Chief Accounting Officer, where they oversaw approximately 200 associates and reported quarterly to the Executive Management Team and Board of Directors. Melissa was also an active member of the Retirement Investment Committee formed by the Board of Directors to manage approximately $350 million of pension and employee savings investments.

From 2012 to 2016, Melissa was the Vice President of Corporate Controller at Coty Inc., where they were responsible for facilitating initial registration with the SEC as a public reporting company, including assisting with SOX implementation. Melissa was also the project leader to harmonize global accounting treatment of manufacturing variances.

Most recently, Melissa joined Wakefern Food Corp. in 2016 as the Vice President of Corporate Finance & Tax, where they were responsible for oversight of corporate accounting, budgeting, and tax for a $16B grocery wholesale/retail cooperative. Melissa led a Finance Transformation Project, a $6M investment in technology upgrades and organizational redesign, resulting in creation of a shared-service organization and over $2M annual savings. Melissa also created and delivered a training program on Six Sigma Process Improvement and Change Management to the entire Finance leadership team and over 125 finance staff members.

In 2022, Melissa joined Do Good Foods as the Vice President Corporate Controller.

Melissa Sungela obtained their B.B.A. in Accounting, with a minor in English, from The University of Texas at Arlington - College of Business between 1984 and 1988. In 1991, they obtained their Certified Public Accountant certification from the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy. Melissa is currently a Juris Doctorate Candidate at Seton Hall University School of Law, studying Law.
