Alexander Whitaker has had a diverse and impressive work experience. Alexander began their career in the U.S. Navy in 1981, where they served as a judge advocate and achieved the rank of U.S. Navy Captain. During their 25-year Navy career, Whitaker specialized in international law and held various high-ranking positions, including Deputy Assistant Judge Advocate General and Director of Navy General Civil Litigation.

In 2007, Whitaker transitioned to the role of Assistant Vice President of Major Gifts at Berry College, where they were responsible for major-gift fundraising. Alexander later became the Chief of Staff and Secretary to the Board of Trustees, where they served as the principal assistant to the president and was in charge of public relations, media, historical assets, and religious life.
