Brian McTaggart

English Teacher at KIPP SoCal Public Schools

Brian McTaggart has extensive work experience in the education field. Brian has worked as an English Teacher at KIPP SoCal Public Schools since 2021. Prior to that, they founded and designed an independent second-grade alternative instructional school called Independent Learning Pod in 2020. At LA Promise Fund from 2019 to 2020, they designed and instructed curriculum for English classes and AP English Language, collaborated with staff on IEP compliance, and communicated with parents about student progress. Brian also worked as a Writing Teacher and Football Coach at Uncommon Schools from 2017 to 2019, where they were part of a team dedicated to the comprehensive needs of 7th-grade students. Additionally, they taught English and History at Emek Hebrew Academy Teichman Family Torah Center in 2016 and held various teaching roles at Centinela Valley Union High School District from 2013 to 2016. Their teaching career began in 2000 at Los Angeles Unified School District, where they taught high school English and served as an Academic Decathlon Coach. Throughout their career, Brian has consistently demonstrated expertise in curriculum design, student assessment, collaboration, and communication with parents and staff.

Brian McTaggart has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the Arizona State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Brian also holds a Master of Education degree from UCLA. In terms of certifications, Brian has obtained the Word Essential Training certification from LinkedIn in May 2021. Brian also possesses a CLAD (Crosscultural, Language and Academic Development) certification from UC San Diego Extension, obtained in October 2008. Furthermore, Brian holds a California Clear Single Subject Credential in English from the Los Angeles Unified School District, obtained in August 2017.
