Shannon McGowan

Shannon McGowan, SPHR, SHRM-SCP has extensive experience in human resources management. Shannon currently works as a Sr HR Director at Kisco Senior Living, where they provide leadership to the Area HR Directors and supports HR Associates throughout the portfolio. Prior to this, Shannon was an Area HR Director at Kisco, where they ensured compliance with HR policies and laws, managed HR Generalists, and coached associates and managers on HR practices.

Before joining Kisco, Shannon worked as an HR Director, US Operations at Medicago, where they integrated the company's purpose, vision, and values into all activities. Shannon provided consultancy, guidance, and support to business groups and managed and developed internal HR professionals.

Previous to Medicago, Shannon served as a Senior HR Business Partner at the City of Raleigh Municipal Government and as the Director of Human Resources at the North Carolina Medical Board. Shannon also worked as a Human Resources Manager at Surgical Review Corporation and as an On-site HR Service Representative at Glaxo Smith Kline for Modis, Inc.

Shannon's early career included a role as an Employee Relations Coordinator/Testing Coordinator at BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated expertise in human resources management, compliance, coaching, and employee relations.

Shannon McGowan, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, has a BA in Multidisciplinary Studies/HR from North Carolina State University, which they obtained from 1990 to 1992. Prior to that, they received an Associate of Arts (AA) degree from Louisburg College from 1988 to 1990. In terms of certifications, they obtained the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification from HR Certification Institute in September 2016 and the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) certification from SHRM in September 2015. Shannon also obtained additional SHRM-SCP certifications in 2014. Furthermore, Shannon obtained the SHRM - Senior Certified Professional certification in December 2013 and has a certification as a Strategic HR Business Partner from the Human Capital Institute (HCI).
