John Mern

John is a decision scientist and intelligent systems engineer. He specializes in stochastic algorithms for solving complex, sequential tasks with imperfect information. He has developed decision-making methods that have been applied to autonomous vehicle control, safety-critical infrastructure planning, and computer network security.

John received a B.S. in mechanical engineering and finance from Washington University in St. Louis and a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Stanford University. While at Stanford, John conducted research on machine learning and stochastic planning in the Stanford Intelligent Systems Laboratory. Prior to Stanford, John was an autonomous systems architect at Boeing Phantom Works.
