Omar Orqueda

Omar Orqueda is currently the Head of Engineering at Lilt. Prior to this, they were the Vice President of Software Engineering at Syntiant Corp from February 2021 to February 2022. There, they led a team of over 75 engineers and scientists responsible for deep learning, speech and audio, data, infrastructure, and embedded systems. Omar also defined the organization, charters, and roadmaps for software development teams to deliver production-quality deep learning products, such as keyword spotting, far-field, speaker identification, breaking glass detection, synthetic data generation, and person detection. In addition, they improved deep learning modeling practices and development agility to streamline deliveries with consistently higher quality.

Before Syntiant Corp, Omar was the Senior Director of Software Engineering at SambaNova Systems from April 2020 to February 2021. There, they oversaw software engineering efforts and ensured the successful delivery of software products. Omar also managed a team of engineers and was responsible for developing and executing engineering strategies.

Omar started their career at Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a Senior Leader for AWS Deep Learning in July 2019. In this role, they worked with customers to help them adopt deep learning technologies and solve complex technical problems. Omar also drove technical innovation within AWS and helped shape the future direction of the company's deep learning products and services.

Omar Orqueda has an MBA from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School, a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University, and a PhD in Control Systems from Universidad Nacional del Sur. Omar also has certification from University of California Santa Barbara - Professional and Continuing Education in Advisory Board Member, edX in Applications of TinyML, Fundamentals of TinyML, NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute in NVIDIA DLI Certificate – Building Intelligent Recommender Systems, National Research University Higher School of Economics on Coursera in Introduction to Deep Learning, Coursera in TensorFlow in Practice, edX in MIT - Tackling the Challenges of Big Data, and Coursera Verified Certificates in Innovation for Entrepreneurs: From Idea to Marketplace.

They work with John DeNero - Chief Scientist, Samantha Reiss - Head of Services, and Paula Shannon - Chief Evangelist. Omar Orqueda reports to Spence Green, CEO.
