Literacy Volunteers of Laredo emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. We strive to provide confidential, student-centered instruction and assistance by trained volunteers. Additionally, we provide free resources to adults with limited reading, writing, and or English proficiency skills. When we began in 1986, we were called Literacy Volunteers of America Texas - Laredo. Many years later we changed our name to Literacy Volunteers of Laredo to emphasize our dedication to this specific community.  Today we’re driven by the same foundational ideas on which we founded our organization: to support, to grow, and to empower Laredoans.
