Creator Lead Instructional Designer – Young Architects Workshop at Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission

Marcus Monroe has a diverse work experience with various roles in different organizations. Marcus began their career as a Project Coordinator at Alachua County Facilities Management from 2008 to 2010. After that, they worked as an Assistant Director in the College Reach-Out Program at the University of Florida from 2010 to 2012, where they co-managed a state-funded program aimed at improving college access for students.

Marcus then joined Quinn Evans Architects in 2012 as an Architectural Designer and BIM Specialist, working on multiple design and construction projects. Marcus contributed to projects such as the Lincoln Memorial Rehabilitation and National Air and Space Museum Rehabilitation. Marcus remained with the firm until 2017.

From 2013 to 2017, Marcus worked as a BIM Instructor at Montgomery College, where they taught undergraduate students in architecture and design courses. During this time, they developed the course curriculum and delivered lectures on Adobe Creative Suite and BIM programs.

In 2016, Marcus gained experience as a Project Architect/Manager at The National Institutes of Health, managing architecture and design projects for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Marcus supervised a team and managed projects from requirements gathering to furniture and equipment procurement.

From 2015, Marcus served as a Creator and Lead Instructional Designer for the Young Architects Workshop, a 10-week design apprenticeship program for high school students in partnership with the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. Marcus developed a curriculum to teach students design thinking, client interaction, model making, and 3D software skills.

In 2019, Marcus became a Councilmember for the Town of Brentwood, where they provided leadership to community programs and advocacy efforts. Marcus oversaw a multimillion-dollar budget supporting economic and arts development programming within the Brentwood community.

Lastly, Marcus joined GRAPHISOFT in 2018 as a BIM Consultant and currently holds the role of Manager, Customer Enablement. In their role, they provide expert technical support, defines implementation schedules, and works with clients through onboarding and configuration. Marcus also acts as a liaison between different departments to communicate customer feedback and drive continuous product improvement and client experience.

Marcus Monroe has a Master of Architecture (M.Arch) degree with a concentration in Historic Preservation from the University of Florida. Marcus also attended the University of Florida's Vicenza Institute of Architecture, where they studied Architecture. In addition to their formal education, Marcus has obtained several certifications, including the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance from the University of Maryland School of Public Policy in October 2022, LEED Green Associate certification from Green Business Certification, Inc. in August 2016, HURRIPLAN Resilient Building Design for Coastal Communities from the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center in May 2016, and the Masonry Conservation & Lime Mortar Workshop from the National Center for Preservation Technology & Training in June 2010. Furthermore, Marcus holds a Certificate of Historic Preservation from the University of Florida and is qualified under the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Historic Architect (36 CFR 61).
