After completing their secondary education, they went on to pursue a Bachelor of Laws (BIuris) degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal from 1989 to 1994. Following this, in 2002 to 2003, Derryl completed an Honours in Labour Law at the University of Johannesburg. In 2011 to 2013, they enrolled in the Milpark Business School and obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a focus area that is unspecified.
