Your new Company

Empathetic and hard-working, at Happiful we’re passionate about creating a happier, healthier society. With a mission to help you get the help you need, we operate a network of wellness websites, including Counselling Directory, Hypnotherapy Directory, Nutritionist Resource, Therapy Directory, and Life Coach Directory, and with more than 28,000 professionals currently registered across our network, we pride ourselves on offering impeccable customer service and support, to enable our members to support you on your wellbeing journey.

Happiful unites our products – the directories, our print and digital magazine, and our app – to help people get the support and information they need. To date, we’ve connected more than 7.5 million people with professionals through our platforms.

Your new role

As the Features Editor (fixed-term, maternity cover) for Happiful, you will play a key role in supporting the creation and production of our award-winning wellbeing content and products, including the print and digital magazine, happiful.com, weekly newsletters, email communications, and social media. If you think you are the right person to help us, please apply for this position and we’ll be delighted to meet you and welcome you to the Happiful family.

What will you be doing?

In this role, you will be responsible for planning, researching, writing, and sourcing articles, including relevant imagery, to support our editorial cycle. Building and maintaining relationships with contributors and industry experts is key. You will edit and commission content for specific magazine sections such as news, hacks, and the new ‘On Your Mind’ series. Working closely with the Editor-in-Chief, you will ensure all content is finalised, formatted, and reviewed before publication. Proficiency in InDesign is essential for supporting the review process, and making necessary amendments. There is also the potential opportunity to ‘Guest Edit’ an issue, pending the Editor-in-Chief’s discretion.

For our newsletter and email marketing, you will draft the weekly ‘Uplift’ newsletters and support additional marketing and launch communications. You will monitor analytics for email performance and conversions, strategising to support commercial opportunities.

Your digital support duties will include contributing to the weekly newsroom rota, staying aware of current news and trending topics, updating featured posts and trending articles on happiful.com, and writing marketing or sales copy as needed. You will also provide team and administrative support, covering for the Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Assistant during emergencies or absences, contributing to cross-department campaigns, attending events, commissioning content, and offering feedback. Administrative responsibilities include managing contacts, maintaining databases, and supporting departmental goals, especially around subscriber growth.

This is a full-time fixed term maternity cover (14 months) position, which offers hybrid working options. You’ll be able tp work from our modern office based in Watchmoor Park, with options available to work from home – this means that you should have provisions in place to allow you to do this comfortably and safely.

What are we looking for?

  • Qualification in English, literature studies, creative writing, journalism, or similar.

  • Passion for storytelling and ability to adapt writing style.

  • Awareness of mental health and wellbeing topics.

  • Portfolio of creative content.

  • Understanding of publishing logistics.

  • Strong team player with a proactive attitude.

  • Excellent organisational, communication, copywriting, and editing skills.

What you’ll get in return

  • 34-hour working week with flexible working hours, including an early finish on Fridays.

  • Salary £32,000+ depending on experience.

  • Opportunity to qualify for a bi-annual company bonus.

  • We will also provide up to 5% employers' pension contributions.

  • 32 days holiday entitlement, including UK public/bank holidays and end-of-year office closure (increasing annually to a maximum of 38 days).

  • 2 volunteering days per year, with a supporting community focus and a charity allowance (to be donated to the charity(s) of your choice).

  • Vitality Health Insurance.

  • We prioritise our employees’ emotional wellbeing by providing access to therapy.

  • A unique working environment in our modern offices, with a fully stocked fridge and snacks.

  • We are a company that will recognise your achievements and celebrate milestones, and offer multiple company social events throughout the year.

Please apply with a CV and cover letter, featuring links to your writing portfolio/any examples of your work (of which none of your writing pieces should not be created either using or with the assistance of AI).
