Laura Bortolin

Director of Research at Mercy BioAnalytics, Inc.

Laura Bortolin has worked in various research and consulting roles since 1998. Laura worked as a Staff Scientist at MIT Lincoln Laboratory from 1998 to 2008, where they researched detection and identification of biological warfare agents in environmental samples and was also involved in building protection and anti-tamper short course development. Bortolin then worked as a Principal Research Scientist at SRC from 2008 to 2011, focusing on developing technologies to identify terrorists and pre-symptomatic detection of illness. From 2013 to 2014, they worked as a Consultant for Karyopharm, and in 2014, they founded Kennis Research Group LLC, where they served as a Principal Consultant until 2015. From 2015 to 2018, Bortolin worked at Harvard Medical School in both research and lecturing roles, where they had a key focus in single cell/nuclei transcriptome analyses, technology development, and innovation. Since 2018, they have been working as Director of Research at Mercy BioAnalytics, Inc.

Laura Bortolin completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Honors Zoology, concentrating on Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, at The University of British Columbia from 1983 to 1988. Following this, they pursued their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Cell and Developmental Biology at Harvard Medical School from 1991 to 1997.
