We currently seek a global public policy intern to join our global policy team. This remote position is part time (15–20 hours/week), Monday–Friday, with a commitment term of three months (August - Oct/Nov 2024 - dates flexible).

Internship Objective

As a Mercy For Animals global policy intern you will gain experience advocating for farmed animals and a just, sustainable food system at intergovernmental organizations, such as those within the United Nations system. This internship will build skills in research, writing, and policy advocacy. You will develop an understanding of global public policy processes, such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, United Nations Environment Programme, and World Organisation for Animal Health. Additionally, you will have opportunities to grow your network of advocates in this space and think creatively about novel strategies that leverage international law and policy to achieve advocacy objectives.

Activities and Tasks (in descending order)

  • Write and conduct research in a public policy context 
  • Aid staff with at least one major initiative
  • Track and analyze policy developments and legislation
  • Help develop and submit policy proposals and comments
  • Standing as a law student or postgraduate student in law, public policy, or international relations or a recent graduate 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Familiarity with intergovernmental organizations as well as international law and policy
  • Exceptional qualitative research skills
  • Proficiency in Gmail and Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
  • Ability to coordinate several simultaneous tasks
  • Adaptability
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
  • Passion for farmed animal protection

Earn an hourly rate of $20.
