David Martin has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. David began their career as a Lieutenant in the Australian Army and served from 1987 to 1996. After leaving the military, they joined Microsoft in 1997 as a Marketing Director, where they stayed until 2003. David then worked as a Senior Consultant at HP from 2003 to 2005, followed by a role as Marketing Product Management at AMD from 2005 to 2007. From 2007 to 2012, David served as Director of Product Marketing at VMware. David then joined Tableau Software as the Director of Field Marketing from 2013 to 2016, before transitioning to Amazon Web Services, where they held the position of Head of Technology from 2016 to 2018. Currently, they hold the same role at Qdrant since 2023.

David Martin completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science at Flinders University from 1988 to 1991. David pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at AGSM @ UNSW Business School from 2004 to 2005. In 2020, they attended Stanford University, focusing on Engineering, although the degree name is not specified.
