Senior Principal Engineer Manager, Next Generation Autonomy at Motional

Chulong Chen has extensive experience in the field of autonomous driving systems, particularly in radar and perception technology. Chulong currently holds the position of Senior Principal Engineer Manager at Motional, where they lead and manages the Next Generation Autonomy team. Their responsibilities include pioneering the transition from a LiDAR-first perception approach to a Radar-Vision first end-to-end sensing-perception paradigm. Prior to joining Motional, Chulong worked at Nuro, where they focused on perception in the TLM department. Chulong also worked at Intel Corporation as a Research Scientist, where they played a key role in the development of Intel's high-resolution automotive radar program, including designing Intel's first 79 GHz perception-ready imaging radar. Before that, Chulong worked at Qualcomm as a Senior System Engineer, contributing to the evolution and design of wireless systems. Chulong started their career as a Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at Purdue University, where they gained experience in digital signal processing and optimization methods. Additionally, Chulong has prior experience as an R&D Scientist Intern at China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

Chulong Chen holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Purdue University (2011-2013). Chulong also has a Master of Science (MS) degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Purdue University (2008-2011). Prior to that, Chulong completed their Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Fudan University (2004-2008) and also holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in Law from Fudan University (2004-2008).
