Athletic Performance & Return to Play Coach at Munster Rugby

David Power has a diverse work experience in the field of sports therapy and rehabilitation. David is currently working as an Athletic Performance & Return to Play Coach at Munster Rugby. Prior to this, they worked at Leicester Tigers as a Senior Physiotherapist & Rehabilitation Coordinator, an Academy Physiotherapist, and a Junior Academy Physiotherapist.

David also served as an Interim International Liaison at Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland, where they were responsible for student membership and the international recognition process. David has also worked as a Lecturer/Teacher at SMB College Group, delivering lectures and practical sessions for Diploma in Sporting Excellence.

In addition to their roles in rugby clubs and educational institutions, David has experience working as an Academy Physiotherapist at Barnsley FC and completing a Physiotherapy Internship/Placement at Newcastle Falcons Rugby Club. David also served as the Head Athletic Therapist for the Women's Rugby First XV at Newcastle University and North Shields Football Club.

David has further experience as a Physiotherapy Placement at Connect Health and as an Athletic Therapist and Strength & Conditioning Specialist at Sports Injury Specialists Clinic. Overall, their work experience showcases a strong background in sports therapy, rehabilitation, and teaching, with a focus on working with athletes and sports teams.

David Power received their initial education at Dublin City University from 2012 to 2013, where they pursued a B.Sc. in Sport Science & Health. From 2012 to 2016, they continued their education at the same university and obtained a B.Sc. in Athletic Therapy & Training.

In 2015, David briefly attended Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania to study Athletic Training/Trainer. Subsequently, from 2016 to 2019, they studied Physiotherapy at Northumbria University but did not complete a degree in this field.

David returned to Northumbria University in 2021 and is expected to graduate in 2026 with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Sports and Exercise.

Additionally, David Power has obtained several certifications to enhance their knowledge and skills. In 2016, they became a Certified Athletic Rehabilitation Therapist (ARTC) through Athletic Rehabilitation Therapy Ireland. David further pursued certification as a National Certification in Strength & Conditioning (NCSC) from the Elite Performance Institute; and as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) in 2017. The same year, they also completed the Emergency First Response and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certifications under the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council.

In 2018, David obtained the FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine (Online) from FIFA. Finally, in 2019, they completed the Pre Hospital Immediate Care in Sport (L3 PHICIS) certification offered by England Rugby.
