Matthew Vanderwey

Data Scientist at MyHEAT

Matthew Vanderwey is a data scientist who currently works for MyHEAT. Prior to working for MyHEAT, Vanderwey was an associate machine learning developer for AltaML from January 2022 to April 2022. As part of a team, Vanderwey helped develop two computer vision-based solutions for a large integrated energy producer. The first solution entailed automated image segmentation and classification while the second involved estimating the value of a continuous physical property based solely on imagery. Vanderwey's responsibilities included data acquisition, image reprocessing, feature engineering, model training and pipeline implementation via Azure ML Studio.

In May 2020, Vanderwey interned as a software engineer for Pason. The following year, they attended the University of Calgary as a Masters of Software Engineering student from September 2019 to August 2020.

Lastly, Vanderwey was the president of Vaneto Engineering Corp.

Matthew Vanderwey is a Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) candidate in software engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary. Matthew also holds a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in geomatics engineering from the University of Calgary. In addition, they have various certifications, including Esri's "Going Places with Spatial Analysis," First Nations University of Canada's "Reconciliation Education," Transport Canada's "RPAS Basic Operations Certification," Codecademy's "Learn Java Course" and "Learn Python 3 Course," the Project Management Institute's "Project Management Professional (PMP)," the Oil Sands Safety Association's "OSSA Regional Orientation Program," Industry Canada's "Restricted Radio Operator's Certificate - Aeronautic (ROC-A)," and Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc.'s "Argo Operators Certificate."
