Matt Barr

Chief Technology Officer at mySidewalk

Matt Barr has held various roles in the technology industry since 2007. Matt began their career at Kiewit as a Project Manager and Software Developer, where they reduced costs by successfully converting several business units from Crystal Reports to Microsoft Reporting Services and delivered new flexibility, cost management, and decision support by assisting in the creation of a replication and data transformation system for key data warehouse. In 2010, they joined LeaseTeam, Inc. as a Senior Software Engineer, where they pioneered the addition of optimistic and pessimistic concurrency in an application with many forms of data access to the same objects and a domain with wide ranging side effects on many of the objects. Matt also eliminated several legacy projects from a large solution using complex regular expressions and custom tools to quickly resolve source code issues, improved speed, reliability, and flexibility of automated builds by remaking the automated build process, ensured protection of intellectual property and application security by implementing obfuscation in their products, improved usability and performance while adding valuable features to key areas after taking ownership, and improved maintainability and speed of coding for other engineers by giving presentations and code reviews, writing dynamic and highly reusable view models for Windows Presentation Framework development and functional coding, and provided mentoring in the areas of object design, UI design, WPF layout and animations, and functional programming. In 2011, Matt Barr became the Chief Technology Officer at VoterTide, where they led a technology team of 6, designed and built a scalable, high throughput infrastructure involving web, app, db, and messaging servers hosted on Amazon EC2, and created applications in python, C#, and javascript while overseeing the creation of applications in python, javascript, and ColdFusion. Matt also created storage systems supporting real time answers to highly varied, complex queries over huge volumes of data, processes that allow on the fly modification to the filtering, tagging, and classification of incoming data by non-technical staff, integrations with third party services such as DataSift with their own unique expert languages, an advanced Message Queuing Protocol based pipeline of data input, processing, and storage, highly asynchronous systems to take in data from an enormous volume of HTTP requests, and REST-ful Apache web services. Since 2013, Matt Barr has served as the Chief Technology Officer at mySidewalk.

Matt Barr attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 2004 to 2009, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering.
