Dr. Bryan Biegel is Associate Director of the Exploration Technology Directorate at NASA Ames Research Center. In this role, he focuses on enhancing the culture of mission success, inclusion, respect, and safety. Specific leadership areas include digital transformation, project and accomplishment reporting, future-of-work (e.g., remote and hybrid work success and work-life balance), diversity and inclusion, health and safety, enhancing work quality and impact, and awards and recognition.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Biegel served as Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Ames in 2020-2022, and established a strong foundation for digital transformation at NASA as Co-Lead of NASA’s Digital Transformation initiative formulation team in 2018-2020. In 2016-2018 in Washington, D.C., Dr. Biegel enhanced interagency coordination of federal information technology research and development as Director of the National Coordination Office for the interagency Networking and Information Technology Research and Development (NITRD) Program. In 2000-2016, he helped expand NASA’s supercomputing program as Research Branch Chief and then Deputy Chief of the NASA Advanced Supercomputing (NAS) Division at Ames Research Center.
Before joining the NAS management team, as a contractor at the NAS facility, Dr. Biegel advanced research in modeling and numerical simulation of nanoelectronics, space electronics, and quantum electronic devices. He received a bachelor's and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1997.
