Jorge Velásquez

Science Director, Audubon Americas at National Audubon Society

Jorge Velásquez has extensive work experience in the field of ecology and conservation. Jorge currently holds the position of Science Director for Audubon Americas at the National Audubon Society, a role they have held since July 2020. Prior to this, they worked as a Spatial Analysis Specialist at The Nature Conservancy from October 2018 to July 2020. From September 2012 to July 2018, they served as the Lead Researcher at Instituto de Investigación de Recursos Biológicos Alexander von Humboldt. Jorge also worked as a Lecturer at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana from August 2010 to December 2015. Before that, Jorge held positions such as Spatial Ecologist at National Audubon Society from December 2011 to August 2012, and Spatial Ecologist at Cenicafé from August 2011 to December 2011. Jorge began their career as a Research Assistant and Fellow at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, where they worked from August 2005 to May 2011.

Jorge Velásquez pursued their education in the field of biology, with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree from Universidad Nacional de Colombia. Jorge attended this institution from 1999 to 2004.

After completing their undergraduate degree, Jorge continued their academic journey at Stony Brook University. Jorge pursued a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Applied Ecology, which they obtained between 2005 and 2011. Subsequently, they went on to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the same university, attending from 2005 to 2013.
