Mostafa Hassan

Principal Data Scientist at NCC Group

Mostafa Hassan has held various roles throughout their career. Mostafa began as a Software Developer intern at Ellipsis Digital Systems Inc. in 2002. Mostafa then worked as a Software Developer intern at SySDSoft in 2003. Afterwards, they served as a Research and Teaching Assistant at Cairo University while pursuing their M.Sc. degree. During this time, they developed a new approach for penalized likelihood regression for multidimensional data.

In 2006, Mostafa joined Informateks International Inc. as a Research Engineer, where they contributed to research projects. Mostafa then transitioned to a role as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo from 2008 to 2012, while also working as a PhD student and Research Assistant. Their academic research activities included topics such as automatic document topic identification and improving document clustering using a hierarchical ontology extracted from Wikipedia. Mostafa also engaged in industrial research activities, conducting machine learning-based classification of encrypted internet traffic.

Mostafa later joined Vestec, Inc. in 2013 as a Research Software Development Engineer, where they worked until 2015. Their responsibilities involved research and software development. From 2015 to 2017, they worked at Sandvine as a Senior Software Engineer, contributing to the development of the company's reporting and machine learning solutions. Mostafa then assumed the role of Principal Data Scientist at Sandvine, leading and mentoring the Data Scientist team in the Active Network Intelligence Department.

In 2019, Mostafa joined Symantec as a Principal Data Scientist, focusing on monitoring network device performance and developing automated filtering and real-time reporting systems. Mostafa also took on the same role at Broadcom Inc., leading a data analysis project to monitor network device performance.

Currently, Mostafa works at NCC Group as a Principal Data Scientist. Mostafa is spearheading the Data Science efforts for project Calibrate, where they have developed innovative methods to estimate customer resilience scores and enhance network security using machine learning techniques. Mostafa has also published articles in the field of cybersecurity, showcasing their groundbreaking work in cracking random number generators.

Mostafa Hassan has a strong educational background in computer engineering. Mostafa obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo between 2008 and 2013. Prior to that, they completed their Master's degree in Computer Engineering at Cairo University from 2005 to 2007. Their academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Engineering, which they earned from Cairo University between 1999 and 2004.

Additionally, Mostafa has obtained certification in the field of deep learning. Mostafa completed the Deep Learning Specialization from Coursera in March 2018.
