Hamish MacFarlane has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Hamish began their career in 1999 as a Speech Writer and Policy Adviser for the UK Civil Service, focusing on transport, housing, fire, and rescue. Hamish then joined the Scottish Government in 2005, where they worked as a Speech Writer and Policy Adviser, specializing in gender and mainstreaming equality, and later in child protection. During this time, they managed the Children's Hearings Act 2011 and conducted comprehensive equality impact assessments.

In 2011, Hamish transitioned to the Tennessee Language Center, where they held various roles including Instructor, Instructional Designer, and Taxi Pro Instructor. Hamish designed and delivered training sessions and programs in areas such as teaching English as a second language, professional development for student teachers, and beginner English classes for immigrant parents. Hamish also created materials and conducted training for over 800 Nashville taxi drivers.

In 2018, Hamish joined New Horizons Computer Learning Center as a Microsoft trainer and Leadership and Development Facilitator. Hamish provided executive leadership, business, and Microsoft training to clients in various industries, including automotive, utility, legal, healthcare, electronics, and state government.

Hamish MacFarlane's most recent position is with New Horizons, where they work as a Leadership and Development Facilitator, starting in 2023. Prior to that, they held the role of Career and Culture coach at Teacher Hamish from 2012 onwards. In this role, they created and delivered online English, culture, and career training programs for working professionals, as well as specific programs for job interview coaching.

Throughout their career, Hamish MacFarlane has demonstrated a strong commitment to education, training, and development, making significant contributions in language instruction, curriculum design, and leadership facilitation.

Hamish MacFarlane's education history includes the following:

- From 1994 to 1995, they attended Edinburgh Napier University and obtained an MSc in Hospitality Management.

- Between 1990 and 1994, they studied at The University of Edinburgh and earned an MA (Hons) in Politics & Modern History.

- In 2011, they enrolled at the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute for a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).

- In 1997, they attended the University of Cambridge, where they completed a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA).

In addition to their formal education, Hamish MacFarlane has acquired several certifications and additional qualifications over the years. Some of these certifications include becoming a Certified DISC Practitioner from Assessments 24x7 in May 2023, completing the "Business Etiquette: Phone, Email, and Text" course by LinkedIn in August 2022, and earning a certification in Microsoft PowerPoint (Microsoft 365 Apps and Office 2019) from Microsoft in March 2022. Other certifications cover a range of topics such as streambank repair, virtual education, office software proficiency, and various courses related to instructional design and teaching techniques.
