Sara Calabrese is a researcher at Norsk institutt for vannforskning (NIVA) since October 2017 and an industrial PhD candidate at Marine Harvest since January 2013, focusing on the biological requirements of post-smolt Atlantic Salmon in closed-containment aquaculture systems. Previous experience includes serving as a fisheries biologist for Alaskan Observers Inc., where observation for the West Coast Catch Shares program took place, and as a research assistant at the Fish Endocrinology Laboratory, University of Göteborg, contributing to a collaborative EU project on the health and welfare of farmed fish. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Aquaculture from the University of Bergen, an MSc in Marine Zoophysiology, and a B.Sc. in Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography from the University of Gothenburg, along with an exchange program in Aquaculture/Biotechnology at The University of Queensland. Main research interests involve the impact of common aquaculture stressors on the physiology of Atlantic salmon.
