Staff Research Assistant III at Northern California Institute for Research and Education

Sarah Slain has a diverse range of work experience. Sarah currently works as a Staff Research Assistant III at NCIRE - The Northern California Institute for Research and Education. Prior to this, they served as a Graduate Student at University College London, focusing on the neuropsychology of neurodegenerative diseases and disorders. During their time at University College London, they conducted a Masters Thesis Project evaluating a novel memory test for translational application in the pre-surgical assessment of temporal lobe epilepsy.

Before their graduate studies, Sarah worked as a Guest Services Specialist at Backroads, where they sold, booked, and managed national and international luxury active vacations. Sarah Slain completed their Master of Science (MSc) degree in Dementia: Causes, Treatments, and Research (Neuroscience) at UCL from 2019 to 2020. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Cognitive Science and Philosophy from the University of California, Santa Cruz from 2013 to 2017. Additionally, they pursued studies in Cognitive Science at The University of Edinburgh starting in 2015.

Before their higher education, Sarah attended Tamalpais High School from 2009 to 2013.

In terms of certifications, Sarah obtained the International Review Board Certification - "Protecting Human Research Participants" from the National Institutes of Health Office of Extramural Research in January 2017. Sarah also completed a 100-hour TESOL/TESL/TEFL Teacher Training Certification Course at Oxford Seminars in December 2016. Furthermore, they acquired the Protecting of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme certification from Disclosure Scotland in September 2015 and a Food Handler's Certificate from the American National Standards Institute in August 2016. It is unclear when they obtained the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act Training and HIPAA 101 certifications from UCSF Medical Center, as the specific months and years are not provided.
