Tom Draffen has had an extensive and diverse work experience.

In 1999, they started working as a Lead Developer for SMAUG Game Developer, where they managed versioning and development of a text-based online game and supervised a team of programmers.

Tom then joined the United States Marine Corps in 1999 and held multiple roles over the years. Tom served as a Training and Standardization Supervisor, responsible for developing and standardizing curriculum for air traffic controllers. Tom also worked as an Operations Manager, where they managed day-to-day operations of a Marine air traffic control detachment and led a small unit in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, they served as a Facility Watch Officer, overseeing air traffic control operations and training in Japan.

In 2008, Tom became a Senior Analyst/Manager, advising commanders on workforce planning and operations and supervising personnel and equipment. Tom also played a key role in cost-effective contracting for air traffic control operations in Afghanistan.

In 2013, they were appointed as the Department Manager/Instruction System Design for the United States Marine Corps, where they led the Air Traffic Control division and managed instructor certifications and curriculum development.

Tom then moved to the US Marine Corps Headquarters in 2016 and served as a Senior Policy Advisor, establishing and executing organizational policies for aviation operations and talent engagement.

In 2018, they joined Objective Area Solutions as the COO, providing expertise in business consulting services and supporting senior staff in strategy development and technical solutions.

In 2019, they started working as an Adjunct Faculty at American University.

Throughout their career, Tom Draffen has demonstrated their expertise in leadership, operations management, talent development, policy advising, and technical solutions across various industries.

Tom Draffen began their education journey in 2003 when they enrolled at American Military University. Tom pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Information Technology Management, completing their studies in 2009. After a significant gap, they returned to education in 2017, this time attending National University. Here, they pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Organizational Leadership, which they completed in 2018. Concurrently, in the same year, Tom also took part in the Accredited Coach Training Program at George Mason University, focusing on Leadership Coaching for Organizational Well Being.

In addition to their formal degrees, Tom Draffen obtained various certifications to enhance their professional expertise. In November 2018, they became an Associate Certified Coach through the International Coach Federation. Tom also obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute in February 2018.
