POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Vice-President, Communications is responsible for coordinating the public affairs and brand image of OSTA-AECO. They act as the primary point of contact for all media outlets and are responsible for the publicization of OSTA-AECO and its advocacy initiatives.

As a non-voting member of the leadership team, they shall:

  • Facilitate and optimize internal communication, specifically between the leadership team and the rest of the organization.
  • Facilitate all external communication, including channels such as social media, press releases, publications, media interviews, etc.
  • Act as an official representative and spokesperson of OSTA-AECO and assist the President in their duties as spokesperson. This includes communications with other education partners and stakeholders.
  • Shall be responsible for the final publishing of OSTA-AECO releases such as press statements and reports.
  • Coordinate the posting and distributing of awards from OSTA-AECO such as the Ontario Student Voice Awards with tasks such as:
  • Sourcing grading volunteers and;
  • Coordinating the publication and distribution of the awards.
  • In collaboration with the Creative Services Coordinator and other communications roles, maintain OSTA-AECO’s brand image and public accounts, in-line with the organization’s brand image through the Voice and Visual Review system (VVR)
  • Act as a line of communication between the Community Relations department and the Leadership Team.
  • Work to provide public affairs and communication training to the General Assembly
  • Uphold OSTA’s values as outlined in the Code of Conduct to foster a safe and healthy working environment

REQUIRED SKILLS

The following skills are strongly recommended for the following position. Note, candidates need not have direct experience with these skills, however, they should show a keen interest in developing them.

  • Team leadership and project management.
  • Adept technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and social media management platforms.
  • Ability to keep up with daily recurring tasks, such as inquiries from the community and social media posts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with major media outlets and ability to be on-call when required.
