Overview

Mandate: One year, commencing August 1 of the year they are appointed until July 31 of the end of the following year.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) & Board of Directors (“The Board”)

Direct reports: Department Heads

Time commitment: 15+ hours per week

Honorarium: $8,000 in two instalments of $4,000 (once per academic term)

Role and responsibilities

  • Develop actionable strategies, objectives, and plans that ensure alignment with short- and long-term objectives developed in tandem with the CEO.

  • Strategically manage, organize, and coordinate employees and volunteers from different departments and locations to ensure efficiency.

  • Oversee organizational operations, project timelines, and employee and volunteer productivity.

  • Build a highly inclusive culture to ensure team members thrive.

  • Be directly accountable for the department heads.

  • Oversee financial operations, conference planning, and priorities for the organization in tandem with the CEO and the Board of Directorsboard of directors.

  • Sit on the Board of Directors as a voting member and fulfil the regular responsibilities of a Director, including committee participation requirements.

  • Provide the Board of Directors with operational updates and maintain open communication between the board and departments.

  • Support the CEO in setting and driving the organizational mission and vision, corporate strategy, and hiring needs.

  • Measure and analyze current revenue streams, offerings, and relationships to optimize organizational growth and revenue strategy.

  • Assess and implement improved processes and new technologies in collaboration with colleagues.

  • Work with the CEO to provide ongoing professional development for the Leadership Teamorganization.

Eligibility

Any applicant for the COO must:

Be an OSTA-AECO alumni who completed their Student Trustee term with a School Board in Ontario.

Be the age of majority by the commencement of their term on August 1.

Preferred qualifications

Experience in a departmental role at OSTA-AECO or similar.

Coordination and management of a team’s workloads and their respective projects.

When required, be prepared to undertake necessary certification classes (e.g., ASIST and CPR-C + AED)
