Kevin Zhijie Chen

Head of Security at Optimism

Kevin Zhijie Chen started their work experience as an undergraduate research intern at Peking University in 2007. Kevin later became a full member of The Honeynet Project from 2009 to 2010. Kevin then worked at Google as a software engineering intern in 2012. Kevin also co-invented technology at Ensighta from September 2012 to January 2013 and worked as a consultant at FireEye through their acquisition of Ensighta from February 2013 to April 2013. In 2015, they joined Google as a software engineer in the security division and eventually became a tech lead in data protection until February 2020. From June 2015 to October 2017, they also worked as a software engineer in security at Google. Kevin then joined Amazon Web Services (AWS) as a software engineering manager for Security Hub's engineering team from February 2020 to April 2021. Kevin served as an adjunct professor at New York University from November 2018 to July 2021, teaching a course on practical computer security. After that, they worked as a principal engineer at Tencent from July 2021 to November 2022. Currently, Kevin is the Head of Security at OP Labs starting from January 2023.

Kevin Zhijie Chen obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Security from the University of California, Berkeley from 2010 to 2015. Prior to that, they completed their Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (with a Double Major in Mathematics) from Peking University from 2006 to 2010. In addition, they have obtained a certification as a GIAC Information Security Professional (GISP) from GIAC Certifications in March 2021.
