Carlos Alexander Ruiz Perez has worked in a variety of roles since 2011. Carlos Alexander began their career as a Research Intern at Corporación CorpoGen, where they conducted research on proteorhodopsins found in hotsprings in High Andean Mountain ecosystems and analyzed genes involved in biofilm formation in Klebsiella pneumoniae. In 2012, they became a Masters Student at Universidad de los Andes | Corporación CorpoGen, where they conducted research on microbial communities associated with High Andean Mountain Ecosystem plants such as Espeletia sp. In 2014, they began working as a Young Researcher at Corporación CorpoGen, where they continued to research on microbial communities associated with High Andean Mountain Ecosystem plants such as Espeletia sp., as well as isolating, identifying and characterizing culturable bacteria from Espeletia plant in Andean High Mountain ecosystems for bioprospecting purposes. In 2014, they also took on a Research Intern role at NASA Ames Research Center. In 2015, they began a PhD Student role at Georgia Institute of Technology. Most recently, in 2021, they began working at PetDx as a Bioinformatics Scientist, and was later promoted to Bioinformatics Scientist II.

Carlos Alexander Ruiz Perez obtained their Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Bioinformatics from the Georgia Institute of Technology between 2015 and 2020, with a focus on Biomathematics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology. Carlos Alexander also earned a Masters in Biological Sciences from the Universidad de Los Andes between 2012 and 2014, with a focus on Biology/Biological Sciences and Microbiology. Carlos Alexander'sundergraduate studies were completed at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, where they earned a degree in Industrial Microbiology between 2007 and 2012. Additionally, they have obtained two certifications from Coursera, including Python Data Structures in April 2018 and Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python) in March 2018.
