In this exciting role, you will contribute to the design, development and optimization of processes for extracting metals from mine tailings and other under-utilized material streams. You will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists to model, test, and implement novel extraction methods that are both efficient and environmentally responsible. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist senior engineers in researching, modelling, and developing innovative processes for metal extraction from mine tailings and alternative material sources.
  • Participate in laboratory experiments and pilot studies to evaluate and model the effectiveness of new extraction techniques.
  • Analyze data from various sources to understand process performance, identify areas for improvement, and optimize metal recovery rates.
  • Support the development and implementation of environmentally friendly extraction methods, considering factors like water usage and waste minimization.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of process documentation, including flowsheets and technical reports.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures in the laboratory and pilot plant settings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental chemical and physical principles related to mineral processing and metal extraction (e.g., leaching, precipitation, solvent extraction).
  • Familiarity with sustainability principles and their application in industrial processes (a plus).
  • Experience working in a laboratory environment (preferred).
  • Proficient in scientific software for data analysis and visualization (e.g., Excel, Matlab).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a strong focus on innovation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
