Pedro Verruma has a long and varied work experience. From 2009 to 2021, they have worked at multiple companies in a variety of roles. From 2009 to 2012, they worked as a Software Engineer at Wizdee, where they developed and maintained a semantic search engine in Java, PostrgreSQL, Solr/Lucene with a natural language interface (NLP) for portuguese and english and a strong focus on AI and ML techniques. From 2012 to 2017, they worked at guberni as a Full Stack Engineer, where they developed the frontend and backend of Tellki, a SaaS monitoring tool, using ASP, C# (backend) and HTML/CSS/Javacsript (frontend). Pedro also developed and maintained a near real-time alarm engine in Java with RabbitMQ and MongoDB connections. From 2016 to 2017, they worked at Wizdee again as a Software Engineer, where they worked on a backend service using Java 8, REST APIs (Jersey + Swagger). Pedro also interacted with tools like PostgreSQL, ActiveMQ, Solr and some CI tools like: Maven, Jenkins, Nexus and Docker. From 2017 to 2019, they worked at CRITICAL Software as an AI & ML Engineer, where they contributed to the development of solutions that make use of AI techniques like NLP, ML, etc. and was involved in Data Science projects. From 2019 to 2023, they worked at Talkdesk as a Senior Engineering Manager, where they oversaw three AI based teams, which created AI focused services to be in use by other teams and products at Talkdesk with requirements for high performance and availability. Pedro also directly managed one of the teams. In 2023, they joined Pleez as the Head of Engineering. Additionally, from 2012 to 2021, they built and maintained a side project, http://rethumb. com - an image processing service using PHP, Go, MariaDB, nginx, etc.

Pedro Verruma obtained their BsC in Informatics Engineering from Universidade de Coimbra between 2002 and 2007. Pedro then continued their studies at the same institution, earning their MsC in Informatics Engineering in 2011. In addition to their degree, Pedro has obtained several certifications, including Professional Scrum Master™ I (PSM I) from Scrum.org in March 2022, Machine Learning from Coursera in November 2017, Devops: Continuous Delivery from Udemy in January 2016, and Linux Administration from Udemy in January 2016.
