Louis F. Ernst

Louis F. Ernst has extensive work experience in the engineering field. Louis F. currently holds the position of Director of Hydrogen Systems Engineering at Plug Power, starting in April 2023. Prior to this role, they worked as an Engineering Fellow - Hydrogen Solutions at Plug Power from March 2022 to April 2023.

Before joining Plug Power, Louis served as the Director of Product Engineering at Mr. Fusion from October 2020 to December 2021. In this role, they led the design engineering efforts for consumer waste-to-power systems. Louis F. built and managed an engineering team, developed microbial fuel cells for electricity generation, and worked on developing methane production and power generation systems.

From November 2019 to October 2020, Louis held the position of Director of Engineering at BayoTech, Inc. Louis F. was responsible for leading the engineering and design efforts for high-efficiency natural gas fueled distributed hydrogen generation equipment. Louis F. built a team, led various design activities, and managed the overall skid packaging effort.

Louis also has a significant work history at FuelCell Energy. Louis F. held multiple roles within the company, including Director, Project Development Engineering; Discipline Chief - Applications Engineering from January 2014 to April 2019, Sr. Manager, Module Engineering; Discipline Expert - Mechanical Design from April 2007 to December 2013, Manager, Systems Integration and Analytical Engineering from December 2004 to April 2007, and Cost Reduction Team Leader from September 2003 to December 2004. Louis F. furthered their education by pursuing a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering with a specialization in Combustion from Princeton University. Louis attended Princeton from 1997 to 2000.

Alongside their formal education, Louis also earned several certifications. In 1991, they became an Amateur Radio Operator certified by the Federal Communications Commission. In 1997, they received the Engineer In Training certification from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 2001, they obtained the GE Six Sigma Green Belt certification from GE Power. Lastly, in 2006, Louis became a Certified 40 CFR 82 F (Refrigerant) Technician - Type Universal through the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI).
