About the Team and Role:

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on communications professional to work with our CEO and executive team to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to enhance our brand reputation, engage stakeholders, and support our business objectives. The ideal candidate will be an extraordinary storyteller, writer, and relationship builder.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic communication plan that aligns with Quora’s overall goals and objectives
  • Act as the brand steward for Quora, the company, and the product brands Quora and Poe, including defining the relationships between the brands and maintaining brand integrity across channels
  • Develop content for various channels including the company blog, social media accounts, and the press
  • Build and maintain relationships with key media contacts, influencers, and other stakeholders to enhance Quora’s visibility and reputation
  • Elevate the voice of the CEO and other leaders through media interviews, speaking opportunities, and social media outreach
  • Provide strategic counsel to executives and act as a trusted advisor on reputation issues
  • Manage company response in sensitive situations
  • Partner with the leadership team on internal communications
  • Support customer or in-product communications in collaboration with Product teams, Product Marketing, and Sales and Business Marketing
  • Implement an approach to measure brand strength and sentiment and embrace a continuous improvement mindset in our communications efforts

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to be available for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's “coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time)
  • Exceptional writer and storyteller, with the ability to craft compelling messages for diverse audiences; journalistic background a strong asset
  • Proven experience as a Director of Communications or similar role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate, inside and outside the company (media, industry influencers, colleagues, other stakeholders)
  • Experience managing crisis communications and navigating sensitive issues with professionalism and integrity
  • Comfort with data and using quantitative and qualitative data insights to refine communication approaches
  • Minimum of 10 years as a Communications professional
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English or related field

Preferred Requirements:

  • Communications experience in a consumer technology company
  • Familiarity with AI and the evolving landscape of generative AI

There are many factors that will determine the starting pay, including but not limited to experience, location, education, and business needs.

  • US candidates only: For US based applicants, the salary range is $168,000 - $260,000 USD + equity + benefits.
  • Canada candidates only: For Canada based applicants, the salary range is $172,000 - $265,000 CAD + equity + benefits.
