Stephen Backman

Stephen Backman has extensive work experience in project and program management in the international development field. Stephen has held various roles at RTI International since 2013, including Project Director, Program Manager, and Chief of Party. Prior to that, they worked at Creative Associates International and FHI 360 as a Chief of Party. Stephen also served as a Senior Program Manager/Senior Advisor at the Academy for Educational Development. Stephen Backman began their career as a Lecturer/Research Assistant at Michigan State University and was a Member of the African Language Teaching Association. Stephen also worked at Brigham Young University as a Program Manager and Field Studies Facilitator.

Stephen Backman completed their education with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from Brigham Young University, where they studied from 1997 to 2002. Stephen further pursued their academic journey and achieved a Doctorate in Education from Michigan State University, specializing in their field of study from 2003 to 2009.
