Sharon Stirrat

Director of Justice at SACRO

The Director of Justice is focused on the strategic leadership of existing service provision, ensuring professional and practice standards and successful relations are maintained with key external partners.

Sharon has been a qualified social worker for 33 years and holds an MSc in Management and Advanced Award in Social Work Practice.

She has worked as a social worker in Strathclyde Regional Council, Central Regional Council and Falkirk council where she gained experience across all areas of social work practice. She managed the criminal justice social work service from 1991 which involved responsibility for prison-based social work and all aspects of community criminal justice social work.

In 2008 Sharon was seconded into the Scottish Government’s Reducing Reoffending Programme and employed as a COSLA Consultant and Professional Adviser. She was the author behind national standards and outcomes for court services and report writing which re-branded social enquiry reports to become criminal justice social work reports.

In 2012 she became Convenor of the Association of Directors of Social Work Criminal Justice Standing Committee before taking up the role of Director of Operations (West) at Sacro in October 2012 and Director of Justice in 2021.
