John Y.

John Y. has over 15 years of experience in the technology sector, beginning in 2005 when they became a General Partner at Equiom, an intellectual property development firm. In 2010, they became the CIO of Balance Financial, a SaaS based technology company, and co-founded Avado, which was acquired by WebMD in 2013. In the same year, they joined WebMD as the Sr. Director of Technology, and in 2016 they were promoted to Sr. Director of Engineering, where they developed a HIPAA-compliant secure messaging product. In 2018, they became a Member of the Advisory Board at Akvelon, Inc., and in 2019 they joined Grubstakes as a Member and infx as the Chef Operating Officer. Most recently, they are the Direct of Tech Operation and Security at SecureSave.

John Y. completed their Bachelor of Mathematics in Computer Science with Electrical Engineering Elective (CS/EEE) from the University of Waterloo between 1988 and 1993. In 2015, they obtained a SAFe Scrum Master certification from the Scrum Alliance. In 2006, they obtained a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the PMI - San Francisco Bay Area Chapter. In 2003, they obtained a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from the ISC2 Silicon Valley Chapter. In 2017, they completed a Venture Capital Executive Program from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business. John also obtained a Venture Deal certification from the Kauffman Fellows.
