Erik Service

Erik Service has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Erik began their career in 2004 as a Software Developer at GE Healthcare, where they developed a dynamic web application. Erik then transitioned to the role of Broadband Specialist, driving the adoption of a SaaS offering and managing VPN tunnels for the protection of personal health data. This role expanded to National Broadband Specialist, where Erik conducted site visits, managed projects, and engaged in internal evangelization.

In 2014, Erik joined Fondation de l'hôpital général juif - Jewish General Hospital Foundation as a Medical Research Fellow, leading research projects and completing clinical trials. During this time, they published multiple science papers and received a Masters degree.

Erik joined Privacy Analytics in 2016 as a Data Analyst and Technical Lead. Erik played a crucial role in developing a privacy-enhancing technology solution for de-identifying personal health information in datasets owned by pharmaceutical companies. Erik worked with a small interdisciplinary team to create a repeatable offering before going to market.

In 2018, Erik joined Security Compass as a Security Consultant, where they guided clients in implementing software security solutions. Erik later became a Senior Security Consultant, focusing on application security operations and guiding adoption throughout organizations. Erik then transitioned to the roles of Enterprise Customer Success Manager and Account Manager, Public Sector.

In 2022, Erik joined Shostack + Associates as a Threat Modelling Instructor, expanding their expertise in the field.

Overall, Erik has a strong background in software security, data analysis, and medical research, with experience in project management and client-facing roles.

Erik Service holds a Master of Science degree in Integrated Program in Neuroscience from McGill University, which they completed from 2014 to 2016. Prior to that, they obtained an Honours Baccalaureate degree in Cognitive Science from the University of Ottawa from 2010 to 2014. Erik also holds a 3-year Diploma in Computer Science from Sheridan College.

In addition to their formal education, Erik has obtained several certifications in the field of information privacy and security. Erik is a Fellow of Information Privacy (FIP) and holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional - United States (CIPP/US) certification, both from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP). Erik has also obtained the IAPP Certified Information Privacy Manager certification. Furthermore, Erik holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification from (ISC)². Erik has additional certifications including AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner and Amazon Web Services Developer - Associate from Amazon Web Services (AWS), Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) from (ISC)², and CompTIA Security+ from CompTIA.
